A good watch can be a man’s best friend, because it can last a lifetime with proper care, and can add that touch of class and style that most humans strive for, and consider when choosing their wardrobe and accessories. For me, I often must balance the choice between practical and functional versus aesthetics. A quality watch can compliment and cure both of those concerns. I travel a lot as a backpacker, and as a wilderness adventurer, and so space, weight and necessity are always at the top of my mind when I’m packing for a big trip.
But something that always comes with me is a reliable watch. And even though, there are flashy watches and function-packed models that gauge much more than time, I prefer a style that compliments me and my lifestyle, and is comfortable to wear. My ideal watch must also be resilient, as I often find myself roughing it a bit. So, who knows, I may find myself in a situation where I could lose my way, and total track of time. What then? That is why I always carry a watch that can take the stresses of survival life, and that has the ability to keep time reliably, but also keep track of the date.
I recently teamed up with a watch maker who specializes in quality watches, Wood Mark, who create great watches with all of my expectations provided. Wood Mark makes unique, all-wood* (*but for the mechanics and hardware, of course) watches that keep track of time and date, but also look sharp and classy. I found the Voyager model to be a watch that can work with most outfits; casual, dressy, and outdoors.
Upon first inspection of the Voyager watch, the quality was apparent immediately. The red sandalwood band works smooth and fits comfortably, and the watch face is simple and elegant, with silver line markings and no numbers to indicate time, and is complete with a small pearlescent square that indicates the date. The Voyager watch is water resistent, which is a requirement for my lifestyle.
I have a deep love for Nature, if you can’t already tell this by reading Eye & Pen. So when I team up with a company who works with leather or wood, I like to be sure I choose partnerships that are ethical, with companies who are not actively working to make the world a worse place. Wood Mark’s handcrafted watches are made of strictly sustainably forested woods, which I think is an important distinction.
