Reviewing GSI Outdoors’ Microlite 720 Flip & 500 Twist Adventure Bottles

GSI Outdoors has come out with a new line of bottles that will add value to any adventure. Where I’ve often struggled at finding reliable drink ware that I like, and that adds to my adventure rather than taking from it and becoming a burden, GSI has succeeded. A lot of the entry-level bottles and market prevalent bottles that I’ve tried often seem to be cheaply made, or are overpriced with no extra features. Sadly, I’ve found that many simply fail at their most basic feature, while being poor at retaining heat or cold, or they tend to leak around the lid and will spill down my front and get in my beard every time I take a swig. It’s a small thing, but it can be rather annoying.

But I found GSI Outdoors’ Microlite line to be a solid improvement to a classic problem. The Microlite 720 Flip is a sleek, lightweight 24 oz bottle (weighing in at 11.1 oz) that offers vacuum-insulation with a stainless steel inside that gives it a versatility that is difficult to find elsewhere. Because not only is it lightweight, but it’s made of premium materials, and is capable of prolonging heated contents up to around 9 hours, with a cold retention of 22 hours. So, for any adventure seeker, nature lover, and outdoorsman, GSI has married the perfect features together, making it one of the more desirable drink ware on the market as far as I’m concerned. The lockable flip top is a nice touch to allow for easy drinking and little mess.

The smaller Microlite 500 Twist is similar in its build (weighing in at 7.7 oz), and in that it offers a stainless steel inner construction, providing up to 10 hours of hot and 20 hours of cold retention for its 17 fl. oz, while being 1/3 lighter than traditional models. It’s extremely thin, with 2mm walls, which creates a nice and compact footprint that helps keep the weight down and the packing versatility at a premium. The 500 Twist is the perfect size for any day trip that I take, yet has the durability to be used on hardcore wilderness ventures too. The screw top cap assists in creating a perfect seal with its leverage enhancing lobe that makes opening frozen bottles easy, so if you’re into skiing, GSI Outdoors’ has got you covered.

All in all, I came away quite impressed with GSI Outdoors’ bottles, and will continue to employ them on my camping trips and adventure trips where applicable, because they are build well, and have been designed even better, providing optimum value and versatility.
