Taking a look at BulletSafe’s Bulletproof Vest

You might be thinking, why would I need a bulletproof vest? In this day and age, most people probably won’t ever find themselves in a situation when they would need one. But you also can never be too sure. If you’re traveling to a country with unrest, or scared of terrorists, then why not, right? But in all seriousness, it’s good to at least know where to get one for an affordable price.

For me, I’ve never been to a country that made me feel like I needed a vest or weapon. I’ve been to Paris a day after terrorist threats were made, and the Eiffel Tour was swamped with armed militia, and I’ve been to a Middle Eastern nation and stayed in the ancient historic center of town where alcohol was forbidden, and I watched women get beaten in the streets. But even then, I kept my wits about me and still to this day, don’t believe I truly needed one.

But… If I were to travel to certain countries in the Middle East or Africa, then I’d have to be honest with myself, and be sure that I arrived well prepared. And that would include a bulletproof vest of some sort, and probably a weapon, but most likely, I would simply hire a well-informed, resourceful (and armed) guide. Though, thankfully, I have avoided areas of strife, because that’s simply not the sort of travel writer I am. I am no journalist, and I am no Hemingway, and that’s okay.

What makes the BulletSafe’s bulletproof vest so interesting is the price point. They retail at around $299, which is exceedingly cheaper than the ones produced by the defense contractors and gun makers of the world. To be frank, at first I was a little skeptical that buying the cheapest vest on the market was really the best idea. But once BulletSafe sent me a trial vest to try out for this review, and I had it in my hands, I could tell it was no simple, cheap knock off. Instead, I found their bulletproof vest to be quite impressive.

BulletSafe’s vest is made strong, with quality materials and is fitted with two large plates in front and back that are rated as ‘Level IIIA Protection’ and are strong enough to do the job. Their vest runs from small to 4-XL and is adjustable with heavy duty side and shoulder velcro straps. The cool aspects of their design is that it offers the user wrap-around coverage and there are two large pockets on the front and back panels that allow you to store precious items safely, and away from sight.

After growing the parts needed in me to actually test the BulletSafe Bulletproof Vest, I found it to work well at stopping the bullet and even though getting shot will still hurt, it is strong enough to save my life, and for that I am certainly grateful. I’ve stressed Travel Safety for years and hiding items from view is a big part of avoiding being a target. I’ve been robbed thrice in my life abroad, and have since learned what it takes and what is required of me. And if the world continues to turn negatively, then I might very well carry around a bulletproof vest on my back.

Even if you’re only curious, check out their website. They sell an Alpha version of this vest that covers the neck and groin, as well as vests for dogs…
