The Equilibrium: A modern knife for a modern world

When it comes to knives, designs can range from kitchen cutlery to zombie apocalypse machetes, and in between those, you will find a wide variety of fixed and folding knives and survivalist blades, yet finding the right one will be as unique as finding one’s own style of clothing. It can take time to find the right fit. But if you are indeed searching for that right blade, it’s important to consider what uses are required of the knife, and what you demand of it.

For me, I look for a hybrid knife, something strong and powerful, yet small enough to carry around with me each and every day. I look for a blade that can withstand the dynamic demands of my unorthodox life: a blade that can handle camping and wilderness survival, yet also triumph through the needs of everyday life. If you’re venturing out into the wilderness, it’s always smart to have a strong fixed blade, and if you simply need a quality folding pocket knife for opening packages or the occasional light surgery (not meant as surgical healthcare), then there are a lot of traditional options. But for me, I need a true hybrid; something with some power and raw talent. Finally, after years of searching, I believe I’ve found that blade.

The fine folks over at HEAdesigns debuted with a game changing blade: The Equilibrium, or EQ for short. The EQ blade is a modern blade for a modern world, as it is indeed strong and powerful, yet sleek and unique in its design. The EQ is essentially a folding knife, but it is so much more than that. It is larger than most folding knives at 5.5” when closed, and at 9.25” when open. It melds the convenience and size of a folding pocket knife with the strength and blade of a survivalist fixed blade like no other knife I’ve seen.

The handle of the Equilibrium is strong and thick, with a textured surface that promotes control and grip, and the ergonomic design aids in this as well. At a moment’s glance, it is easy to see the quality of the craftsmanship by HEAdesigns, as the metal housing and hardware are crisp and built to last. The blade is thick and very sharp with a curved blade that offers the user a variety of uses. The overall look and feel of the EQ is high end and fashionable, yet built with longterm use and survival in mind. The packaging for the EQ is a nice white box with foam inserts that fit the blade tight for safe keeping, and includes a thick fibrous sheath, a soft cloth to wipe the blade clean, a logo patch and stickers.

As I stated prior, with how all over the place my life is, I found the Equilibrium a very fine blade with hybrid abilities. The EQ is now my go everywhere knife, because not only is it built for my ranging and wild lifestyle, it is also a dynamic looking blade. It’s the coolest knife I’ve ever used, and it will come with me everywhere, even into the deepest of wildernesses.
