When the everyday troubles begin to linger, fueling my anxieties and stresses, then I know it’s time to pack a bag, grab a hat and to venture into the wilderness. I like to drive as far as I can, away from people as best I can, and then wander from there, because if I go out alone, I don’t want to venture impossibly far from my car, mostly for survival reasons. But the points to go out and far enough away until you no longer can hear the planes, trains and cars.
Survival is always an important consideration, of course, so be sure to pack well and to weigh the possibilities and requirements of where you are in the word: including but not limited to a tent, a sleeping bag, a hatchet, hat, coat, food, water, fire starter if needed, etc. Because maybe it’s summer where you are and a coat may not be necessary; or you may be wondering, ‘why a hat?’ A quality hat can make all the difference when you’re wandering in the wilderness as I like to do. You never know when the weather might shift or if you find yourself lost among the endless trees and survival has become a top priority. You really never know, but a versatile hat is an important piece of gear in case you ever find yourself in a tricky situation.
The Northwoods Trapper Hat is a 6-panel design, made of faux rabbit-fur and lamilite insulation in crown, which means it’s built to last, for just about any element, as if the design has evolved as we have. Stormy Kromer’s trapper hat is finely made hat with flaps that can either be opened to cover your ears, and even latches snugly under your chin to fight off the effects of extreme wintery weather. The inside of the flaps and front of the hat are fur, which helps tremendously to trap heat in and to leave cold out. When the sun shines and as sweat begins, the trapper flaps can button up overhead, creating another fashionable look that provides the user with a choice. When you backpack or wander deep into the wilderness, weight and space are always important issues to consider, and so having a hat that can change and work well for a variety of weather and survivalist situations can also save you from the burden of carrying too much, especially when conditions are ever-changing.
