Okay, I laughed when I wrote that title, but the truth is that it can be hard to grow a ‘righteous’ beard (and no, none of those guys above are me). It takes years, a whole lot of patience, and a lot of botanicals to achieve. You know the kind, that shapely, soft, well-oiled and groomed clump of beauty below a man’s nose that a certain type of woman loves, because well, she must admit that ‘it’s actually sort of pretty. Oh, and it smells so good.’ Only a fair few accomplish such a righteous level of beardom, and I am one such man on a quest to reach the level of righteousness that a priest can only dream of.
I’ve always dreamed of joining the bearded elite, but I’ve always struggled with holes not filling in on my cheeks. Having long dreamt of being that author who lives in seclusion, deep in the forest, in a small cabin with no electric and only a wood burner for heat, it seems as though it’s simply part of the lifestyle that beckons for one’s beard game to be strong. But truthfully, it all started when I backpacked across Europe and Northern Africa for nine months; I simply hated shaving, and I didn’t want to take all the stuff along with me, essentially adding weight to my pack. So, I let it go, and it grew and it wasn’t long before I resembled a nomadic vagrant, not that I was much different, other than the fact that I had no issue funding the adventure. Eventually, I had had enough and I cut it off prior to coming home. And since then, I’ve tried several times to shape it right, to oil it enough, and yet still I failed to reach anything close to ‘righteous.’
Years have passed since that time and I’ve routinely grown my beard out as long as I could until I couldn’t stand it anymore, then I’d shave and start all over. But starting in 2018, I’ve gained a new appreciation and desire for the truth that I’ve reached out to Seven Potions for help. My newfound desire stems from the fact that I’m getting married in the spring and I refuse to be clean-shaven in my wedding photos. Why, you might ask… well, because some people, like myself, are not in love with their natural, hair-less face. And I am one of those people.

They sent me their Beard Grooming Set, which included their Woodland Harmony (a sweet sandalwood and cedarwood scent) beard oil, beard shampoo and beard brush. For starters, the shampoo is meant to keep your beard clean, of course, which is very important for new growers who want optimum growth, because a dirty beard means unhealthy hairs and blocked follicles.
The beard oil is a velvety mixture of apricot kernel oil, crambe seed oil, jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, vitamin E, and essential oils for a natural and inviting fragrance. The beard oil conditions the hair while soothing itch and moisturizing the skin underneath. A dry beard is a crispy beard, and a crunchy beard is a major no go. Last, their brush, which is my favorite part of this collection, because it works so damn well. Not only does their brush, made of boar bristles with a pear wood body, work wonders on shape and the taming of the wild hairs, but it also stimulates the hair follicles which help inspire new growth, while it soothes the new beard itch. All in all, I really like Seven Potions products, and having not found anything negative or constructive to offer, I can only say that I recommend what they’ve got going on. And now after a month of testing, I’ve noticed an improvement in how my beard looks. Big thanks to Seven Potions.
