Imagine the ideal beach setting. Soft, white sand; calm, warm waters; palm trees offering up shade when needed. In the BVI, these are the types of beaches that you will experience. You don’t have to worry about competing for a lounge chair, since most BVI beaches are free from the huge resorts that attract crowds. ‘The Baths’, a beach with unusual rock formations on the island Virgin Gorda was once declared the “most photographed place on earth” – so you know it is worth checking out.
Exquisite Cuisine
The food that you eat on a vacation can truly enhance your experience, and the dining opportunities on the BVI can transform your trip from basic to lavish. Fresh seafood is available all throughout the year, so choose from mahi mahi, wahoo, grouper or other local fish and enjoy some of the most flavorful dishes possible. Each island offers its own take on delicious Caribbean gastronomy, so every stop you make can give you a new taste.
Yacht Charters
The BVI provides the ideal setting for chartering a yacht. The proximity of the islands makes it easy to get from place to place, and there are many luxury charter companies (my favorite is ADDISON) available to help you create a unique and relaxing vacation. Yacht charters have become a very popular choice for BVI travelers, thanks to the convenience and extravagance that they deliver.
Recreational Opportunities
The BVI is a haven for diving enthusiasts, boasting shipwrecks and reefs for exploration. Even if you prefer to relax on your Caribbean getaways, you may need something to do between lounging and eating. There are plenty of recreational opportunities on every island, including hiking, snorkeling, surfing and scuba. Try a quick jaunt to the top of Virgin Gorda Peak, or dive underwater to see the RMS Rhone of Tortola. And as I mentioned, make sure to set aside enough time to visit The Baths – one of the most popular attractions on the islands. After hiking on a trail once used by pirates, you can enjoy a dip in the pools hidden inside granite caves.
Cultural Experiences
Music, dancing and festivals are common occurrences on the BVI, offering up many different cultural experiences for visitors. The BVI Music Festival is a great way to kick back and enjoy some local musicians. The Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival is the perfect choice for sailing enthusiasts, as it brings in some of the world’s best sailing bods. Even a simple trip to the beach can give you an up-close and personal glimpse into the life of a local if you are willing to have a conversation with the friendly folks who live on the island.
