Travel and the Sound of the New: featuring Master & Dynamic

Music touches the soul, and without it, I would argue one has yet to truly live. I would also argue that travel expands the mind, and without it, one has yet to truly live. Being an audiophile and a traveler, like myself, can present a challenge, as it’s tricky to travel, yet appreciate music in your everyday routine, which is how I like it. For, without music in my everyday experience, I feel stale, sluggish, a bit depressive, and tend to find myself wallowing in a funk. Music is what touches my soul, and it’s what gets me moving, and makes me feel such a variety of emotions, that without music, I don’t see how one is truly human; for without the vibe and melody of music moving through ones bones, how can you well up with emotion, or bob your head with the beat of the fire inside?

Music and travel go hand in hand for me, because when in motion with new and exciting experiences to come, music can and will set the mood, be it anticipatory, nostalgic, or be it love, or fear, or simply feeling happy and free, and ready for the new, music is there like a soundtrack. And as a soundtrack, music can be your support, your outlet, your fire. So, how does a traveler feel the music while abroad? Well, for me personally, I get real picky about my equipment that travels with me abroad.

The issue tends to be that speakers are too large, a laptop’s sound is too weak, and a quality pair of headphones are bulky or easy to break. But after years of trying one thing that led me to another approach, I ended up figuring out what works best for me. And that is packing a strong, yet versatile pair of headphones that are capable of reference quality audio, while possessing the build that can withstand the rigors of the road. As of late, for me, that pair is the MW50+ by Master & Dynamic.

The MW50+ is Master & Dynamic’s latest headphone model and it’s their most versatile, because not only is it bluetooth and wireless, the MW50+ employs two ear pad applications like their Lambskin over-ear pads and their on-ear setup. This versatility allows for sound preference customization, as well as lightening how much you’d need to carry with you when mobile. Their headphones are designed to last for decades of use, and unlike most other brands at their price level, M&D’s takes the quality of their builds seriously. They’re made of premium leather, stainless steel, and beryllium.

M&D have married top quality materials with dynamic audio and creative design, with a vision that translates into making something grand that lasts. And from my experience, that’s a rare combination that constantly astounds me. I found the MW50+’s to have a fantastic, dynamic quality of sound that gives power to bass-heavy music, while also giving a crisp and clean sound to the highs that I look for in great headphones. For ease of use, I would give M&D a solid A grade, because the ergonomics of their headphones are simplistic but smart, and the ear pads feel soft and cushioned, even after hours of use. These headphones offer the ability to be wireless as well as isolated with their over-ear pads, and I love them for that versatility, especially when I’m traveling. Because I like to be free of wires when I explore natural areas and foreign cities, and even when I’m stuck on a bus for hours upon hours, I can be alone with my thoughts, with my music, and simply focus on the world outside my window.
