Wow! You won’t believe what all I saw… What a magical trip!

With my face still glowing and my body still buzzing (and no, not that sort of buzz), I am back home from a grand trip that took me 1800 miles from San Francisco, California to Portland, Oregon, by way of wine country and through the amazing redwoods, up the dramatic coast, and through desert and over mountains before it was over.
The dream of experiencing the tallest trees in the world planted the seed, but it was the bucket list that drove me to the Pacific Northwest. As an avid world traveler and photographer, I didn’t need much more to influence me into a trip out west.

First, I flew into SFO, rented a car and drove north to Muir Woods, then I made my way to Arcata, where I kept a home base as I wandered around several Redwoods parks, hiking a total of 28.7 miles of some of the most jaw dropping forests I’ve ever been in. After a few days, I started my way north, seeing the famous Oregon coastline from state lines to Newport. On my way north, I stayed a night at the lovely Lakeshore Lodge in Lakeside, Oregon.

Lakeside is a perfect place to stop for the night as you make your way along the coast, in either direction. I felt comfortable there, and I enjoyed many of the little towns along the way. I was very close to the ocean, yet I had a beautiful lake to enjoy, which was visible just outside my hotel window. I walked from the glass door entrance at the back of my hotel room and in a 100 feet or so, I was at the lake edge, where I enjoyed lounging and taking a rest before heading back out on my adventures.

Lakeshore Lodge is a nice hotel with a restaurant that’s situated at the edge of Tenmile Lake. The lake seems small at first glance, but as I checked the map, it proved to be a sprawling natural lake with tons of recreational options. What was so nice about this lake is it wasn’t packed, and it wasn’t totally surrounded by civilization, and there weren’t hundreds of boats ruining the pristine experience. The lake offered a picturesque backdrop that I fell in love with. You can see my view above. I wish I had more time and one night to stay.

My room was comfortable, roomy, and my stay was peaceful and quiet. I enjoyed every moment there, and I will gladly stay again when I return to the area. The fact that the area felt safe, the region was strategic for my travel plans, my stay was relaxing, and the rooms were wonderful makes the Lakeshore Lodge a top notch choice for comfort on any trip. Everything I needed was provided for, and the staff was kind, so you can’t do much better for the price as I found it to be affordable with great value.
