Greetings campers, and wilderness adventurers. Today, I bring you the final installment of a three part series where I feature some lesser known, yet important gear that can save your life. Throughout this series, I will feature little oddities and amazingly compact items that can have a tremendous impact on your ability to survive in the wild, as well as have a real good time in Nature. I will be featuring three articles on Camping, Fire, and finally Survival, where I will take a look at some of the survivalist items made by the folks at Ultimate Survival Technologies…
Note: By no means are the selections below the only items, nor solely the most important, but they are items that I find useful and so maybe you will as well.

The 30-Day Duro LED Lantern is a 700 lumen LED lantern-style light that provides the user with thirty days straight of light if kept at 30 lumens. Additionally, the lantern will last 22 hours when on high at 700 lumens. It includes an SOS flashing feature that can last up to 15 days. It is one of the longest lasting and brightest lanterns in its class, and for the price, it’s difficult to argue with this investment. The LED bulbs are rated at lifetime and UST guarantees they will never burn out. The lantern runs on three D-batteries, and is built in an impact and weather resistant housing. Having a proper lantern is important and can make all the difference when it comes to survival, besides it makes the nights easier to handle if you’re new to this style of travel.

The Bright Force LED Flashlight is another good option for wilderness survival, especially for weight weary backpackers. It is a LED survival light at 140 lumens in a tiny and thin flashlight casing. UST rates the Bright Force LED bulb as unbreakable, and perhaps even the housing is as well, as it is made from a tough anodized aircraft-grade aluminum with a non-slip silicone sleeve. The flashlight offers three lighting features; high, low and SOS flashing which can last up to six hours. When on high power, the flashlight is rated to last about three hours, and on low, ten hours. Having a quick and handy flashlight is another important survival decision, because it’s small enough to fit in your pocket, yet strong enough to help you find your way at night.

The Waterproof Notebook is a something new to me. And as a writer, I find it way more exciting than likely the most of the world. But to be honest, a waterproof notebook can be a huge help when it comes to surviving in the wilderness. You can forget about soggy pages and bleeding ink, which is helpful for even basic entertainment during tough situations, or more obviously, leaving traces to your whereabouts. Now, you can send a message without the bottle, if you know what I mean.

The Safe & Dry Bag is a necessity for every backpacker and wilderness camper, because without a dry storage bag, you can easily lose your most important gadgets and personal information. A proper dry bag like UST’s will save your phone or GPS, or identifications from being ruined by the elements. The Safe & Dry bag holds 25L and has a rolling neck that secures the compartment inside from water and the other elements.

The Tool A Long Moose is a pocket-sized multi-tool shaped like a moose head with antlers. Wild, right? It’s a really cool metal keychain that gives the user a flathead screwdriver, butterfly wrench, phillips head, cord cutter, a bottle opener and three hex wrenches. The Tool A Long is a thick piece of metal, shaped perfectly with solutions for a lot of the most common tool needs.
