Wandering amongst Nature – Therapy for the ailing mind and soul

Spending time in, and with, Nature is the very thing that provides me with the most clarity, and fulfillment, and sense of freedom. When I am surrounded by woods, or rocky coast, my mind relaxes, as it is not bogged down by the trials of modern life and the demands of civilization. And when there are no sounds of humans, no cars, planes, guns, or rumblings, I am at ease, and at peace. I notice a serious drop in anxiety and the stresses of life. Have you ever experienced this phenomenal power of Nature?

Sometimes I choose to sit and contemplate, or meditate. Those are two mental experiences strengthened by Nature. Like a path to harmony and balance within us, the great outdoors is our sanctuary – Because unlike the modern world, Nature is within us and it created us, and once you experience the true feeling and sounds, and awe of it, many are often left with a higher understanding, meaning and appreciation for it.

And other times, I prefer to wander…

With a pack of supplies on my back and a trusted walking stick in my hand, I saunter, I listen, and I explore. And the world becomes my playground. As the landscape changes, I change. As I escape the modern dystopia, I am reborn.

If you’ve never experienced this connection, I suggest you give it a try. Surround yourself in the natural world, and it will reveal what may have never had, or known existed.

The other day, early in the morning, I was hiking not far from home, and I came to a difficult stretch of craggy rock and a steep drop off. But there was a feeling in this stretch of woods that told me to continue. I gripped my oak walking stick and placed my foot on the first descent and soon, I was climbing. Downward until I reached a rocky place where once a lively stream had cut into the earth, and now all that was left was the remnants of a wild place.

I perched myself on a rock and watched the world awaken. The birds began chirping as the sun peeked like a sliver of light over the treetops, and with it came the most profound feeling of belonging and peace, and I knew that this area of woods received few human visitors, and perhaps that is the very reason it held such meaning and emotion for me. What I am sure of is that I’ve found my place of peace, and I will visit at times of tribulation and confusion, and when I’m in need of respite.

After awhile, I stood and turned back, vowing to return another day.

From Brazos' website: www.brazos-walking-sticks.com
Whether you're seeking a hiking staff for a wilderness trek or a walking stick to help improve your balance and mobility, you've come to the right place. Brazos offers the best walking and hiking sticks. Our wooden walking sticks are handcrafted in Texas from the highest quality native and exotic trees. Crafted from beautiful and durable materials, a wooden walking stick, walking cane, or hiking staff from Brazos will last you for many years to come.

What I thought about Brazos walking sticks:
I recently teamed up with the fine folks over at Brazos Walking Sticks in Waco, Texas. They provided me with the chance to try their oak and hickory walking sticks. A good stick can make all the difference on long hikes and difficult terrain. You may be thinking what’s so special about a walking stick… But their product is so much more than a branch cut to the right height. Their sticks are finely carved and finished like a piece of art. I found their products to be priced fairly, and the quality to far exceed my expectations. The quality of the workmanship, the carving, and the finishing were fantastic with both the Oak and the Hickory sticks, and I know they are treated to last. I’m happy with my experience, with the opportunity to move away from metal trekking poles to stay with the natural approach, as I do with my hikes.
