Whichever airline you fly with, you’ll probably be able to check your flight status online, like I did recently when I used the EasyJet tracker, and it certainly meant I left the house feeling a lot more organised and calm as a result. See if this works for you.
So, starting your holiday in the way you mean to go on, what exactly are you planning on getting up to whilst you’re away? Well here’s a few suggestions to keep you going.
You can choose to keep yourself in the heart of the neon-lit action in Playa del Ingles in the south, which is probably the island’s most popular resort, or you can head to Maspalomas just next door, where it’s slightly more laid-back. Puerto Rico is also a good choice in the south, with plenty of sun for that tan-topping up! If you want to enjoy your time away without being bombarded with kids jumping in the pool, then it’s easy to find an adults-only hotel around most resorts, where you can enjoy your pool days in relative peace.
If you’re in Playa del Ingles, your beach days will be gloriously golden, with a large beach to chill the hell out on, and lots of choices around for shopping and eating out. The south is probably the best place for this kind of break, because the sands in this part of the island are more conducive to comfortable beach days.
Speaking of sands, Maspalomas is famous for its huge sand-dunes, a taste of the Saharas in the Canaries! A camel ride across these dunes is great fun, and will certainly give you plenty of memories and photos to laugh back at in years to come. Maspalomas itself however isn’t really going to be your resort of choice if you want raging night-life, so for that you’re best choosing Playa del Ingles.
Our final suggestion is for the more active at heart, although even if you’re not overly energetic, getting out and about into the countryside will certainly open your eyes to the beauty of the interior of the island. Pico de las Nieves is the island’s biggest mountain and you can trek it if you’re feeling the need for a challenge, however if walking is more your thing, then Tamadaba National Park might be more your thing, and no less beautiful.
However you choose to spend your time in Gran Canaria, one thing’s for sure, this is an island that caters for every kind of whim.
